I grew up in the country, on a block with three huge, amazingly climbable trees and I miss them every day. I don’t think I’d climbed a tree since I moved out of my parents place. Until last week! And it ruled, guys, it was seriously fun and felt like the most natural thing in the world.
Some things I picked up in my adventures:
1. You’re capable of more than you think
See that branch? You could totally make it. It’s well within your reach. You can do this, just reach out and trust your abilities.
2. It’s no big deal if you fall
Okay, maybe that branch was a bit too far. NO WORRIES, YOU’RE FINE! Just shake off that dirt and squished gross ground-fruit and try again. Unless you broke something. Try not to break things.
3. Get a different perspective
It might look like there’s no fruit from where you’re standing. But get inside, up amongst it. LOOK AT ALL THESE BERRIES YOU MISSED. Holy what.
4. Enlist allies
You’re not 12 feet tall. And that’s okay. Sometimes you need to get on top of someone’s shoulders to get to the good stuff.
5. Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty
Ain’t no one get a good haul of mulberries trying to keep their hands clean. That’s ridiculous. You’re going to get all Carrie-fied and look like your hands have exploded but it’s going to be great.
6. The rewards are worth the hard work
Relatedly, my next post is likely to be a recipe for mulberry + Chambord popsicles!
