You know what, I wrote out this HUGE article for this topic, got so steamed about it and left it for a night in the “draft” pile because I wanted to reread it with a level head. Now that it’s the next day, I kinda feel like it’s all been said before.
I’m SICK of whinging about inequality for girls and women.
Yep, boys get more variety.. girls get pink pink pink… change the station we have all heard these rants and moans a million times before.
Instead of posting my long winded “how come I can’t buy a green goddam tutu for my daughter” rant, I am instead going to try and DO something about the problem rather then just bitch.
Some of you might already know that I am currently working with a children’s clothing online store, creating some textile fabric patterns to be made into awesome kids clothes. I will be posting some sneaky peeks of the designs as soon as I have permission from my client but until then you can go visit her awesome little store over at Cuddly Monkeys.
I have also decided to try my hand at a bit of children’s sewing. I’m pretty terrible with a sewing machine but HELL I’m keen to give it a shot and see how I fair. My thoughts are, if more mums stopped moaning about the lack of variety in girls clothes and actually started DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM THEMSELVES, maybe this shit could catch on and we could start making a difference.
Change always starts with doing instead of wishing. Watch this space.
